Kalamunda History Village

Step back in time…..in a picturesque glade at the top of the town site is a village of 14 buildings built around the original railway stations of the famous Zig-Zag railway (1903 &1927); each building will take you back in time to days gone by.

Strolling through the trees you will find locomotive G118 waiting at the platform. At the State School classes are still held for visiting schools and the Swindells Room is a treasure trove of artefacts. The 1921 Post Office tells the story of the timber industry in the hills and you can view the sawpit and the Whim which was used to haul logs out of the forest. Next visit McCullagh Cottage (1898) a worker’s home that looks like the family has just left. Across the lane stands Chambers Guest House (1921) ready for your stay. View the Blacksmiths workshop and the orchard shed and see the early equipment they used. Over at the Carriage shed are the buggies and horse equipment. The Memorial Building houses the mechanical vehicles such as tractors fire engine a 1953 Bedford bus and a reconstructed mechanic workshop. The hands-on Education Programs are very popular and holiday activities are held during the mid-term breaks.
