Shire of Merredin - Cummins Theatre

Cummins Theatre was originally part of the Tivoli Theatre which was erected in Coolgardie in 1897. The Theatre was dismantled and railed to Merredin where it was re-built by James Cummins in 1928. Since its construction, the theatre has become highly valued by the community as a long-standing venue for live entertainment. In 1982, in recognition of its cultural heritage significance, the place was classified by the National Trust of Australia (WA) and Cummins Theatre was permanently entered on the State Register of Heritage Places in 1996. In 2009 the Shire of Merredin was successful in receiving funding to complete extensive renovations and conservation works to the significant heritage fabric of this heritage icon. Cummins Theatre has now re-opened, bigger and better than ever.

The Meekatharra Race Club is a horse racing club in Western Australia’s Mid-West region; approximately 750km’s north from Perth or 400km north east from Geraldton.

The Club was formally incorporated in 1911, but has a history that dates back further.

We meet annually, over the WA Queen’s birthday long weekend (September), during the Meekatharra’s Outback Festival, with two meetings – The Meekatharra Cup on the Saturday and the Meekatharra Sprint on the Monday.

Once we were even called “the races at the end of the universe” …

These days the track has food stalls, large screen TV showing the football, a licensed bar and betting available as well as a free bus running to/from town to the track from start to stumps, with evening entertainment provided by a DJ and a rockin’ live band.

Shire of Harvey - Harvey Swimming Pool

In the late 1970’s, early 1980’s the Education Department declared that Gibbs Pool was no longer suitable to be used as a swimming pool (health regulations).

The community and Shire raised funds and in 1983 the Dr Peter Topham Memorial Swimming Pool (in memory of Dr. Peter Topham) was declared open.

The Dr Peter Topham Memorial Swimming Pool is located on Hinge Road, Harvey.
